Cooling System Draining And Vacuum Filling (G2469378): Filling
- Prepare a container with sufficient amount of coolant to the specified concentration.
Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS
Install the special tools to the coolant expansion tank.
Special Tool(s): HU-919 , JLR-303-1634
- Close the coolant inlet and air supply valves on the special tool HU-919.
Special Tool(s): HU-919
- Connect the hose from the vacuum refill adapter into the container of clean coolant, making sure the hose is submerged in coolant at all times during the fill operation.
- Connect a regulated compressed air supply line to the special tool HU-919.
Special Tool(s): HU-919
- Close the coolant inlet and air supply valves on the special tool HU-919.
-
NOTE:
- Make sure the coolant supply valve is in the closed position on the vacuum filler gauge assembly.
- The coolant vacuum fill tool needs an air pressure of 6 to 8 bar (87 to 116 psi) to operate correctly.
- Make sure the coolant volume in the container is greater than the amount of coolant the vehicle requires.
Open the air supply valve until -0.8 Bar is shown on the gauge.
- When -0.8 Bar is shown on the gauge, close the air supply valve.
- Wait 1 minute to make sure the cooling system holds the vacuum.
Open the coolant supply valve and allow the coolant to be drawn into the system.
-
CAUTION: If the coolant flow stops before the coolant expansion tank is at least half full, stop the fill process. Remove the tool and restart the cooling system draining and vacuum filling procedure.
Close the coolant supply valve when the coolant expansion tank is at least half full. Do not allow the coolant level to rise above the 'MAX' mark.
- Disconnect the coolant inlet hose from the special tool HU-919.
Special Tool(s): HU-919
- Disconnect the air supply line from the special tool HU-919.
Special Tool(s): HU-919
- Disconnect the coolant inlet hose from the special tool HU-919.
- Remove the special tools HU-919 and JLR-303-1634 from the engine coolant expansion tank.
Special Tool(s): HU-919 , JLR-303-1634
- Fill the coolant expansion tank to the 'MAX' mark.
Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS
- Remove the special tools HU-919 and JLR-303-1634 from the engine coolant expansion tank.
-
CAUTION: If the cooling system pressure tester gauge indicates a significant drop in pressure, inspect the cooling system for leaks.
- Install a cooling system pressure tester to the engine coolant expansion tank.
General Equipment: Cooling system pressure tester
- Slowly pressurize the cooling system pressure until 1 bar (15 psi) is shown on the gauge.
- Maintain the pressure during the bleeding process.
- Install a cooling system pressure tester to the engine coolant expansion tank.
- Remove the engine cover.

-
NOTE:
- Make sure the hood is open.
- Make sure the engine is not running.
- Switch the ignition to ON and select the Park (P) or Neutral (N) position on the gear selector lever.
- Open the driver door.
- Fully press the accelerator pedal for 10 seconds.
- Fully release the accelerator pedal.
- The electric coolant pump will be activated for 5 minutes.
- Check the engine coolant level in the engine coolant expansion tank during this procedure.
- After 5 minutes, increase the system pressure until 1 bar is showed in the gauge, if needed.
General Equipment: Cooling system pressure tester
- Release the auxiliary coolant pump bleed screw.
- If coolant is visible from the bleeding point, tighten the bleed screw.
Torque : 2 Nm
- Increase the system pressure until 1 bar is showed in the gauge.
General Equipment: Cooling system pressure tester
- Release the charge air cooler bleed screws (1).
- If coolant is visible from the bleeding point, tighten the bleed screws (1).
Torque : 2 Nm
- Repeat this process at the bleed screw (2).
- Increase the system pressure until 1 bar is showed in the gauge.
- Increase the system pressure until 1 bar is showed in the gauge.
General Equipment: Cooling system pressure tester
- Release the auxiliary radiator bleed screw.
- If coolant is visible from the bleeding point, tighten the bleed screw.
Torque : 2 Nm
- Increase the system pressure until 1 bar is showed in the gauge.
- Increase the system pressure until 1 bar is showed in the gauge.
General Equipment: Cooling system pressure tester
- Release the thermostat bypass pipe bleed screw.
- If coolant is visible from the bleeding point, tighten the bleed screw.
Torque : 2 Nm
- Increase the system pressure until 1 bar is showed in the gauge.
-
CAUTION: If equipped.

WARNING: Never start the engine or leave it running, when the vehicle is in an enclosed space without adequate ventilation. Exhaust gases are poisonous and inhalation can cause unconsciousness and potentially lead to serious injury or death.
Install the exhaust gas extraction hose to the exhaust pipe of the vehicle.
-
CAUTION: Regularly inspect the engine temperature warning lamp and the instrument panel. If the warning lamp is displayed, switch the engine off immediately and allow to cool. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to the vehicle.
- Start the engine and allow to idle for 30 seconds.
- Select 'Dynamic' or 'Sand' Driving mode.
- Make sure the interior heater is switched to OFF.
- Hold the engine speed between 2500 rpm and 3500 rpm until the cooling fan starts to run and the thermostat opens. This will be evident as the radiator side coolant temperature will rise as coolant starts to flow around the radiator.
- Set the heating system to 'MAX' heat with the blower speed control to 'MAX' speed and the air distribution to the instrument panel vents. Examine if hot air comes from the vents.
- Switch the engine OFF and allow to cool.
- Clean any split coolant fluid from the vehicle.
- Remove the exhaust gas extraction hose from the exhaust pipe of the vehicle.
-
WARNING: Since injury such as scalding could be caused by escaping steam or coolant fluid, allow the vehicle cooling system to cool prior to carrying out this procedure.
Check and top up the coolant fluid if required.
