The brake booster is installed on the driver side of the engine compartment and is sealed to the bulkhead with a gasket. The brake booster actuating push rod is attached to the brake pedal with a clevis pin. The brake booster output rod locates in the primary piston of the brake master cylinder.

The brake booster housing comprises an electric motor, a 2 stage gear unit, and a rack (boost body). The rack is connected to the output rod, which is connected to the brake master cylinder.

The brake pedal position sensor is attached to the brake booster housing with 2 screws. The brake pedal position sensor is a non-serviceable component and must not be removed from the brake booster. The brake pedal position sensor detects the brake pedal movement through the input shaft. The brake pedal position sensor sends Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signals directly to the BRAKE BOOSTER Module (BBM). The BBM sends the pedal travel signal to the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) control module via the FlexRay bus. The ABS control module compares the brake pedal travel demand with the brake master cylinder hydraulic pressure in the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). The BBM is also connected to the Body Control Module/Gateway Module (BCM/GWM) via the FlexRay bus.
