Brake Disc Surface Preparation (G2936667): Cleaning
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING
- Remove the wheel and tire(s).
Refer to: WHEEL AND TIRE
-
NOTE: Access to the braking surfaces is possible without further disassembly.
Using an appropriate scouring pad such as 3M scotch-brite, clean the front and rear brake discs thoroughly with JLR approved brake cleaning fluid, taking care to remove all traces of pad material on the inside and outside braking surfaces.
- Using 150 grit emery cloth or similar designed paper for metal sanding with a block, apply 4-5 radial strokes across the inside and outside braking surfaces.
- Observe the image above for examples of how the entire brake disc surfaces should be prepared.
- Install the wheel and tire(s).
Refer to: WHEEL AND TIRE
-
CAUTION: Please avoid severe or heavy braking at any speed during this road test unless traffic conditions require it.NOTE: During the test make sure adherence to local market speed regulations at all times.
Complete a road test to validate the repair. During the test complete 5-8 moderate braking decelerations (approximately 3-5 seconds) from 30mph (50kph) down to 5mph (8kph).
- If this does not resolve the issue, please submit an Electronic Product Quality Report (EPQR) including photographs of the discs and pads after the road tests and hold any exchanged parts for priority return to JLR.
