The external surface of the roof panels comprises the following 3 glass elements:
- Front roof panel (5 mm thick)
- Roof opening panel (4 mm thick)
- Rear roof panel (4 mm thick).
All 3 roof panels are manufactured in a tinted toughened glass. A lamination process allows the highly tear-resistant safety film to be applied to the inside of curved toughened glass. If the roof panels break, the safety film holds the pieces together and the occupants are not injured by pieces of broken glass.
The tinted glass provides a high degree of sunload protection allowing only 8.2% heat transmission into the vehicle.
The roof opening panel assembly comprises an electrically powered tilt and slide mechanism. On opening, the rear of the roof opening panel tilts upwards before moving rearward above the rear roof panel.
