- Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
- Be prepared to collect escaping oil.
- Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
- Always follow the fuel system health and safety precautions, when doing any repairs to the fuel system.
Refer to: PETROL AND PETROL-ETHANOL FUEL SYSTEMS HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING .
- Remove the engine assembly.
Refer to: ENGINE ASSEMBLY REMOVE FOR ACCESS .
Remove the drain plug and allow engine oil to drain into a suitable container.
- Install and tighten the drain plug.
Torque : 23 Nm
- Release the 2 connectors.
- Remove the breather pipe.
- Disconnect the vacuum pipe connector.
- Release the 4 clips.
- Remove the vacuum pipe.
Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Release the 2 pipe connectors.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Release the 2 wiring harness clips.
- Release the purge valve clip and remove the purge valve assembly.
- Release the wiring harness clip.
- Remove the bolt and the oil level gauge assembly.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove the 3 bolts.
- Remove the 2 coolant hose to powertrain mount bolts.
- Release the 2 coolant hose clips.
- Remove the coolant pipe assembly.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.

NOTE: Non-Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) shown, MHEV is similar.
Loosen the 3 bolts.
The following step(s) applies to:
Non Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicles
- Release the accessory drive belt tensioner.
- Install a suitable tool to lock the accessory drive belt tensioner in the removal position.
- Remove the accessory drive belt.
Remove the cover.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the idler pulley.
Remove the cover.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the idler pulley.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the tensioner.
Release the generator connector cover.
- Remove the nut.
- Reposition the cable away from the generator.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Release the wiring harness clip.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the generator.
The following step(s) applies to:
Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicles
Cut and remove the coolant pump belt.
Remove the accessory drive belt.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
- Remove the 2 clips.
- Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.
- Release the coolant hose clip.
- Remove the 5 bolts.
- Remove the right powertrain mount bracket.
Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the bolt.
- Release the wiring harness clip.
- Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the 4 ignition coil electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors from the Continuous Variable Valve Lift (CVVL) solenoids.
- Remove the 2 bolts and the 2 nuts.
- Disconnect the 5 remaining electrical connectors.
- Release the 6 wiring harness clips.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Release the 3 wiring harness clips.

NOTE: If equipped.
Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
- Disconnect the 10 electrical connectors.
Carefully remove the engine wiring harness.
- Release the electrical connector clip.
- Disconnect the coolant hose.
- Release the 7 bolts.
- Remove the intake manifold.
- Remove and discard the 4 O-ring seals.

NOTE: Note the orientation of the component(s) prior to removal.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the 2 knock sensors.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the thermostat housing.
- Remove and discard the gasket.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Release the 2 coolant hose clamps.
- Remove the coolant pump inlet housing.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the heatshield

NOTE: Non-MHEV shown, MHEV is similar.
- Remove the 3 bolts.
- Remove the coolant pump pulley.
- Remove the 6 bolts.
- Remove the coolant pump.

CAUTION: Mark the installed position of the coolant hose before removal.
Disconnect the coolant hose.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the heatshield.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the heatshield bracket.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the heatshield.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the heatshield.
- Remove the 2 banjo bolts.
- Remove the turbocharger oil feed pipe.
- Remove and discard the 4 sealing washers.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the turbocharger oil return pipe.
- Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.

NOTE: Coolant pipes shown removed to provide extra clarity.
- Remove and discard the 4 nuts.
- Remove the turbocharger.
- Remove and discard the gasket.
- Remove the 3 bolts.
- Remove the coolant pipe assembly.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) sensor.
- Discard the CKP O-ring seal.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the 2 Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) sensors.
- Discard the CMP O-ring seal.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the 2 Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) Solenoids.
- Discard the 2 O-ring seals.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the oil filler neck.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the engine lifting eye bracket.

CAUTION: Fuel lines may be used a maximum of 4 times, paint mark the fuel line after each full tightening sequence.
- Release the 3 fuel line unions.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the 2 fuel lines.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the 4 ignition coils.
Release the 4 fuel injector wiring harness clips.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the fuel rail.
- Disconnect the 4 fuel injector electrical connectors.
- Remove the wiring harness.
Remove and discard the 4 fuel injector spring clamps.
Install the special tool to the fuel injector.
Special Tool(s): JLR-310-254
Use the special tool to remove the fuel injector.
Special Tool(s): 100-012
Remove and discard the O-ring seals.
Remove and discard the Teflon seal.
- Repeat steps 60- 63 for the remaining 3 injectors.
- Remove and discard the 2 bolts.
- Remove the high pressure fuel pump.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the purge valve mounting bracket.
- Remove the clip.
- Remove the NVH material.
- Remove the 3 clips.
- Remove the NVH material.

NOTE: If equipped.
- Use the special tool to remove the block heater.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1675
- Remove and discard the seal.
- Use the special tool to remove the block heater.
- Release the 7 bolts.
- Remove the engine vent oil separator.
- Remove and discard the gasket.

NOTE: Special tool JLR-303-1686 is required for Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicles only.
Install the special tool to the position illustrated.

CAUTION: Only rotate the crankshaft clockwise.NOTE: The crankshaft may require rotating to the correct position before the special tool can be installed.
Install the special tool to the crankshaft pulley. Make sure the special tools are installed correctly.

- Remove and discard the 8 bolts.
- Remove the drive plate.
Remove and discard the 4 bolts.
- Remove the special tools.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1686 , JLR-303-1630
- Remove the crankshaft pulley.
- Remove the special tools.
