Pinpoint Test I: Active Grille Air Shutter Obstructed - Duct Deformed Resulting In Loss Of Cooling Performance

  1. I1: A1: IDENTIFICATION OF WHICH ACTIVE GRILLE IS OBSTRUCTED TEST

    1. Set the vehicle into active grille wash mode sequence by starting the engine, set the vehicle into sand mode. After 20 seconds the active grille will open. Using a flash light to look through the front bumper grilles and visually check for deformation of the radiator shroud which may be obstructing the upper and/or lower active grille air shutters to confirm which active vane is being obstructed.

      Does the upper active grille appear to be being obstructed?

      Yes:  If the upper  active grille appears to be obstructed GO to  I2.

      No:  If the lower  active grille appears to be obstructed GO to  I3.

  2. I2: REPAIR PROCESS FOR THE UPPER ACTIVE GRILLE 
    1. Remove the front bumper radiator grille for access only (see FRONT BUMPER (G2299900) - steps 1 to 13)

    2. Remove the upper active grille for access only

    3. Visually check if the upstream duct cross brace is deformed and either obstructing the vane moment or rubbing against the radiator
    4. Secure the duct braces with cable ties around the front end carrier, making sure they do not snag on the surrounding components. Make sure all cable ties are cut clean and flush, and that the cable tie ratchet is unobstructed
    5. Before re-installing the front bumper, repeat Step I1 (see above) to confirm if the active grille is now working properly

      Is the active grille now working properly?

      Yes:  Re-install the front armature and front bumper (see REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION - Front Armature/Front Bumper)

      No:  Replace the upper active grille. Retest. If issue is resolved, re-install the front armature and front bumper (see REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION - Front Armature/Front Bumper)

  3. I3: REPAIR PROCESS FOR THE LOWER ACTIVE GRILLE 
    1. Remove the front bumper radiator grille for access only (see FRONT BUMPER (G2299900) - steps 1 to 13)

    2. Remove the upper active grille for access only
    3. Visually check if the duct cross brace is deformed and either obstructing the vane moment or rubbing against the radiator
    4. Secure the duct braces with cable ties around the bumper armature, making sure they do not snag on the surrounding components. Make sure all cable ties are cut clean and flush, and that the cable tie ratchet is unobstructed
    5. Before re-installing the front bumper, repeat Step I1 (see above) to confirm if the active grille is now working properly

      Is the active grille now working properly?

      Yes:  Re-install the front armature and front bumper (see REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION - Front Armature/Front Bumper)

      No:  Replace the lower active grille. Retest. If issue is resolved, re-install the front armature and front bumper (see REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION - Front Armature/Front Bumper)
