Pinpoint Test A: Power Transfer Unit Over Heat Condition

A1: POWER TRANSFER UNIT OVER HEAT CHECK 1
1. Investigate the source of the burnt oil smell and Inspect the PTU for visible oil leaks
  Is the source of the burnt oil smell coming from the PTU ?
  
  Yes: GO to A2.
  
  No: GO to A4.

1. Inspect the PTU pinion oil seal for oil leaks and damage due to excessive heat
  Is there an oil leak from the PTU pinion oil seal?
  
  Yes: Install a new PTU . Using the Jaguar land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, update the AWD to the latest level software. Clear any DTC s and retest
  
  No: GO to A3.
A3: POWER TRANSFER UNIT OVER HEAT CHECK 3
1. Inspect the condition and quality of the PTU oil. Refer to: DRIVELINE OIL COLOR CHARTS .
  Is the PTU oil burnt?
  
  Yes: Install a new PTU . Using the Jaguar land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, update the AWD to the latest level software. Clear any DTC s and retest
  
  No: GO to A4.
A4: POWER TRANSFER UNIT OVER HEAT CHECK 4
1. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, check the software level of the AWD
  Is the AWD software at the latest level?
  
  Yes: No driveline issue is evident. Return the vehicle to the customer
  
  No: Using the Jaguar land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, update the AWD to the latest level software. Clear any DTC s and retest
