Rear Drive Unit Clutch Pack
| ITEM | DESCRIPTION |
|---|---|
| 1 | Right clutch assembly |
| 2 | Left clutch assembly |
The clutch assemblies comprise the following:
- An outer disc carrier which locates on splines on the crown wheel driveshaft.
- An inner disc carrier which is located in a ball bearing in the left cover.
- There are 6 inner plain metal discs.
- There are 6 outer friction discs.
- An electronically controlled ball ramp.
The inner disk carrier is attached to the crown wheel shaft. The outer disc carrier is held in the housing through a roller ball bearing and is splined internally to receive the half-shaft. Machined teeth on both components provide positive drive through the clutch plates.
The Rear Drive Unit (RDU) motor rotates a ball ramp which compresses the clutch plates together.
The inner disc carrier is attached to the crown wheel shaft. The outer disc carrier is held in the housing through a roller ball bearing and splined internally to receive the halfshaft.
The RDU motor rotates a ball ramp which compresses the clutch plates together.
When disconnected, the outer disk carrier is permanently driven by the rear wheels/shafts. When connected, the driveshaft drives the crown wheel which drives the inner disk carrier. The inner disk carrier transmits the torque requested by the All Wheel Drive Control Module (AWDCM) and the AWDBCM. The torque is transmitted across the clutches.
