Rear HALFSHAFT (G2305910): Removal

CAUTION:

Do not touch the gaiter and when handling the halfshaft make sure that the gaiters does not touch any sharp component or object.
When handling the halfshaft, do not articulate the Constant Velocity joint (CV). Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the CV and gaiter.
Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
This procedure contains illustrations for right side components, left side components are similar.

The following step(s) applies to:

All vehicles

Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING .
Remove the rear wheel knuckle.
Refer to: WHEEL KNUCKLE .

The following step(s) applies to:

Non plug in hybrid electric vehicles only
NOTE:
- Do not pull on the halfshaft between the CV as this will damage the inner CV .
- Keep the halfshaft horizontal to avoid damaging the rear halfshaft seal.

- Remove the rear halfshaft from the rear differential.
- Examine the halfshaft seal for wear and replace if damaged.
The following step(s) applies to:

Plug in hybrid electric vehicles only
CAUTION:
- Take extra care not to damage the rear halfshaft seal.
- Make sure the bar is correctly located on the halfshaft as illustrated, failure to follow this instruction could result in damage to the halfshaft.

Use a suitable bar and hammer to shock the rear halfshaft.
NOTE:
- Do not pull on the halfshaft between the CV as this will damage the inner CV .
- Keep the halfshaft horizontal to avoid damaging the rear halfshaft seal.

- Remove the rear halfshaft from the rear differential.

Remove and discard the circlip.
