SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES ACTION
Clicking noise from rear wheel area of vehicle Rear halfshaft hub nut(s) loose Check both rear halfshaft hub nuts for security. Rectify as necessary
Rear halfshaft outer CV  joint not fully located Check the rear halfshaft outer CV  joint is fully located in the rear wheel hub/knuckle(s). Rectify as necessary. Always use a new nut. Take care with the halfshaft and pay attention to boots to prevent damage
Rear halfshaft outer CV  joint threaded stem worn or damaged Check the rear halfshaft outer CV  joint threaded stem for wear and damage. Rectify as necessary. Always use a new nut. Take care with the halfshaft and pay attention to boots to prevent damage
Disc hub movement Check the wheel joint/disc hub for movement. Rectify as necessary. Always use a new wheel nut with free rotating washer
Knocking noise from rear wheel area of vehicle during turning maneuvers Rear halfshaft outer CV  joint worn or damaged Check the rear halfshaft outer CV  joint by rotating the CV  joint: Does it articulate? Is it stiff? Is there movement? Is it extremely loose to rotate? Road test to confirm the noise is straight ahead, on full lock or partial full lock. Rectify as necessary.
CV  joint boot(s) grease leakage Rear halfshaft CV  joint boots (outer and inner) damaged Check the rear halfshaft CV  joint boots for disconnection, grease leakage, damage and water ingress. Check for grease leakage around the band/clamp area or from boot. Rectify as necessary
Squeak noise from the rear of the vehicle Rear halfshaft CV  joint boots (outer and inner) damaged Check the rear halfshaft CV  joint boots for disconnection, grease leakage, damage and water ingress. Check for grease leakage around the band/clamp area or from boot. Rectify as necessary
Rattle noise from the rear of the vehicle Rear left or right halfshaft dust shield loose, worn or damaged Check the rear left or right halfshaft dust shield for being disconnected, worn or damaged. Rectify as necessary
Vibration or general noise from rear of the vehicle at all speed or at specific speed Rear halfshaft inner CV  joint not fully located Check the rear halfshaft inner CV  joint is fully located in the Rear Drive Unit (RDU). Always use a new circlip if the inner CV  joint is removed. Take care with the halfshaft and pay attention to boots to prevent damage
Rear halfshaft inner CV  joint spline stem worn, damaged or retaining circlip damaged With the rear halfshaft disconnected from the Rear Drive Unit (RDU), remove the halfshaft and check the inner CV  joint for excessive play in the spline and inspect the spline for wear or damage. Check the inner CV  joint retaining circlip for damage. Always use a new circlip. Take care with the halfshaft and pay attention to boots to prevent damage
Rear Drive Unit (RDU) internal components worn or damaged With the rear halfshafts disconnected, check the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) for tight spots or excessive play. Always use a new circlip. Take care with the halfshaft and pay attention to boots to prevent damage
Gear whine (high frequency) rear of the vehicle at a specified speed or all speeds Rear halfshaft interconnection bar damper loose, worn or damaged Check the rear left or right halfshaft damper for being disconnected, worn or damage. Rectify as necessary
Oil leak evident from beneath the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) Rear Drive Unit (RDU) left and right halfshaft oil seal(s) damaged or deteriorated Check the condition of the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) left and right housing oil seals. Rectify as necessary
Rear halfshaft inner CV  joint not fully located Check the rear halfshaft inner CV  joint is fully located/engaged in the Rear Drive Unit (RDU). Rectify as necessary
Rear left or right halfshaft dust shield loose, worn or damaged Check the rear left or right halfshaft dust shield for being disconnected, worn or damaged. Rectify as necessary
