Inspection And Verification

CAUTION: Diagnosis by substitution from a donor vehicle is NOT  acceptable. Substitution of control modules does not guarantee confirmation of a fault, and may also cause additional faults in the vehicle being tested and/or the donor vehicle.
NOTE:
  • If the control module or a component is at fault and the vehicle remains under manufacturer warranty, refer to the Warranty Policy and Procedures manual, or determine if any prior approval program is in operation, prior to the installation of a new module/component.
  • When performing voltage or resistance tests, always use a digital multimeter that has the resolution ability to view 3 decimal places. For example, on the 2 volts range can measure 1 mV or 2 K Ohm range can measure 1 Ohm. When testing resistance always take the resistance of the digital multimeter leads into account.
  • Check and rectify basic faults before beginning diagnostic routines involving pinpoint tests.
  • If Diagnostic Trouble Code(s) (DTC) s are recorded and, after performing the pinpoint tests, a fault is not present, an intermittent concern may be the cause. Always check for loose connections and corroded terminals
  • The DTC  index containing an actions list is for guidance only any reference to "check and install new blower unit" should only be completed following failure confirmation using the pin out diagnostics and/or the over temperature and fluid/air leak diagnostics contained below. The recording of a DTC  does NOT signify a permanently failed unit
  • The climate system functions in a manner that means any detected error state either intermittent or permanent will shut down the complete seat climate system until the next ignition cycle, this does not mean that both climate assemblies within the one seat have failed. This shut down is design intent to protect the system to make sure that the fault detected does not damage the assemblies, it is possible that both units are functioning correctly and that the fault lies elsewhere within the system. The following process can be completed without removing either the seats or the climate assemblies from the vehicle and should correctly identify any failed assemblies, this should make sure that only failed assemblies are changed under warranty. Any assemblies exhibiting the correct reading as per process below, should NOT be changed under warranty. If all assemblies have a correct reading then re-confirm customer symptom, if customer symptom is still present then complete further system checks
  1. Check the JLR claims submission system for open campaigns. Refer to the corresponding bulletins and SSMs which may be valid for the specific customer complaint and complete the recommendations as required
  2. Complete a functionality test to verify the customer concern
  3. Make sure to establish the functionality of all the seats
  4. Make sure that the affected seat/seats, the seat back and the base are tested as individual components
  5. Visually inspect for obvious signs of damage and system integrity
    VISUAL INSPECTION

    MECHANICAL ELECTRICAL
    • Climate seat switch condition and installation
    • Touchscreen
    • Visually inspect the climate assembly and it's fixings to the seat
    • Battery condition and state of charge
    • Fuses
    • Harnesses, connectors and pin integrity (backed out/bent pins)
    • Climate seat switch/switches
    • Seat module(s)
    • HVAC Control Module (HVAC)
    • Ignition switch
    • Battery junction box
    • Central junction box
    • Local Interconnect Network (LIN) circuit
  6. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step
  7. If the cause is not visually evident, verify the symptom and refer to the Symptom Chart, alternatively check for Diagnostic Trouble Code(s) and refer to the DTC  Index
