Lower Timing Chain - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol (G2344490): Installation
- Install the new lower timing chain onto the new idler sprocket.
Renew Part: Lower timing chain Quantity: 1 .
Renew Part: Timing chain idler sprocket Quantity: 1 .
- Make sure that the coloured link is aligned as illustrated.
- Install the new lower timing chain onto the new idler sprocket.
- Install the timing chain and idler sprocket.
- Install a new idler sprocket bolt.
Renew Part: Timing chain idler sprocket bolt Quantity: 1 .
- Make sure that the timing marks are aligned as illustrated in step 3.
Torque : 35 Nm
Make sure that the timing marks align as illustrated.
- Install the new lower timing chain guide.
Renew Part: Lower timing chain guide Quantity: 1 .
- Install and tighten the 2 new bolts.
Renew Part: Timing chain guide bolt Quantity: 2 .
- Make sure that the timing marks remain aligned as illustrated.
Torque : 25 Nm
- Install the new lower timing chain guide.
- Install a new lower timing chain guide.
Renew Part: Lower timing chain guide Quantity: 1 .
- Install and tighten the new bolt.
Renew Part: Lower timing chain guide pivot bolt Quantity: 1 .
Torque : 11 Nm
- Install a new lower timing chain guide.
- Install a new lower timing chain tensioner.
Renew Part: Lower timing chain tensioner Quantity: 1 .
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Renew Part: Timing chain tensioner bolt Quantity: 2 .
Torque : 11 Nm
- Install a new lower timing chain tensioner.
Remove and discard the clip.

NOTE: Maintain tension on the chain to prevent the coloured link from disengaging with its sprocket position.
- Install the upper timing chain.
- Make sure the colored link is aligned with the timing mark on the idler sprocket.
- CAUTION: Make sure that the upper timing chain does not come off the idler sprocket and stays in the correct position.
- Install a new left upper timing chain guide.
Renew Part: Upper timing chain guide Quantity: 1 .
- Install and tighten the bolt.
Renew Part: Left side timing chain guide bolt Quantity: 1 .
Torque : 25 Nm
- Install a new left upper timing chain guide.
- CAUTION: Make sure that the upper timing chain does not come off the idler sprocket and stays in the correct position.
- Install the intake camshaft VCT actuator. Make sure that the correct VCT actuator is installed as noted in the removal steps.
- Make sure the dowel is correctly installed to the VCT actuator as illustrated.
- Install and tighten the new bolt.
Renew Part: Variable camshaft timing actuator bolts Quantity: 1 .
Torque
Stage1: 10 Nm
Stage2: Loosen 90°
- Make sure the timing mark is aligned with the center of the colored link.
- NOTE: Maintain tension on the chain to prevent the coloured link from disengaging with its sprocket position.
Install a new upper timing chain guide.
Renew Part: Upper timing chain guide Quantity: 1 .
- CAUTION: Make sure that the upper timing chain does not come off the idler sprocket and stays in the correct position.
- Install the exhaust camshaft VCT actuator. Make sure that the correct VCT actuator is installed as noted in the removal steps.
- Make sure the dowel is correctly installed to the VCT actuator as illustrated.
- Install and tighten the new bolt.
Renew Part: Variable camshaft timing actuator bolts Quantity: 1 .
Torque
Stage1: 10 Nm
Stage2: Loosen 90°
- Make sure the groove on the exhaust VCT actuator is aligned with the center of the colored link.
- CAUTION: Make sure that the upper timing chain does not come off the idler sprocket and stays in the correct position.
- Install a new upper timing chain guide.
Renew Part: Upper timing chain guide Quantity: 1 .
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Renew Part: Upper timing chain upper guide bolt Quantity: 2 .
Torque : 11 Nm
- Install a new upper timing chain guide.
- Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1636
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque : 13 Nm
- Install the special tool.
Install and tighten a new upper timing chain tensioner.
Renew Part: Upper timing chain tensioner Quantity: 1 .
Torque : 55 Nm

CAUTION: Do not directly touch the timing chain tensioner at this stage.
- Push and release the upper timing chain guide to release the upper timing chain tensioner.
- Make sure the upper timing chain is correctly released.
Tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque
Stage 1: 25 Nm
Stage 2: 60°
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1636
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1635
- Install the lower timing cover.
- Install the upper timing cover.
Refer to: UPPER TIMING COVER
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1630

NOTE: This step is to make sure that the timing components are properly installed.
Use the special tool JLR-303-1656 to rotate the crankshaft 2 times clockwise.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1656
- Install the charge air cooler bracket.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque : 47 Nm
- Install and tighten the nut.
Torque : 9 Nm
- Reposition the 2 coolant pipes in the correct location.
- Install and tighten the nut.
Torque : 9 Nm
- Install the 4 clips.
- Install the charge air cooler.
- Install the hood.

- Connect the 12 V system.
Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
