Turbocharger - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol (G2264493): Removal

WARNING: Observe due care when working near a hot exhaust system.
CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
NOTE:

  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING

  2. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS

  3. Remove the secondary bulkhead center panel.

    Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD CENTER PANEL - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL/INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL - PHEV/INGENIUM I6 3.0L DIESEL/INGENIUM I6 3.0L PETROL

  4. Remove the intake air resonator.

    Refer to: INTAKE AIR RESONATOR

  5. Remove the engine undershield.

    Refer to: ENGINE UNDERSHIELD

  6. Partially drain the cooling system.

    Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM PARTIAL DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING

    • Remove the 2 bolts.
    • Remove the turbocharger rear heatshield.

    • Remove the 4 bolts.
    • Remove the turbocharger front heatshield.

    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Remove the turbocharger upper heatshield.

    • Release the turbocharger lower heatshield from the clip.
    • Remove the turbocharger lower heatshield.
  11. CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping oil.

    • Remove the bolt and the 2 sealing washers.
    • Discard the 2 sealing washers.
    • Move the oil supply pipe away from the turbocharger.
  12. WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.

    • Remove the bolt.
    • Disconnect the 2 coolant hoses from the turbocharger.
    • Inspect the 2 O-ring seals and replace if damaged.

    • Loosen the clamp.
    • Release the catalytic converter from the turbocharger.
    • Remove and discard the gasket.
    • Remove and discard the clamp.

    • Remove the 2 bolts.
    • Release the catalytic converter from the bracket.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector from the charge air recirculation valve.
    • Release the clip.
    • Disconnect the turbocharger outlet pipe from the charge air cooler.
    • Disconnect the turbocharger outlet pipe from the turbocharger.
    • Remove the turbocharger outlet pipe.
  16. WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping oil.

    • Remove the bolt.
    • Remove the oil return pipe.
    • Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.

    Disconnect the electrical connector from the turbocharger.

    • Remove the 4 nuts.
    • Remove the turbocharger.

    Remove and discard the turbocharger gasket.
