Left Variable Camshaft Timing Solenoid (G2849398): Removal

CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of any foreign material.
NOTE:

  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Disconnect the 12V system.

    Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT AND CONNECT

  2. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING

  3. Remove the thermostat housing.

    Refer to: THERMOSTAT HOUSING

  4. NOTE: Illustration shows the intake Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) solenoid.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector from the VCT  solenoid.
    • Remove the 2 bolts.
  5. CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the component.

    Evenly and progressively, remove the VCT  solenoid from each side.

  6. NOTE: Illustration shows the exhaust VCT  solenoid.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector from the VCT  solenoid.
    • Remove the 2 bolts.
  7. CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the component.

    Evenly and progressively, remove the VCT  solenoid from each side.
