Cooling System Draining And Vacuum Filling (G2796567): Draining

WARNING: Injury such as scalding could be caused by escaping steam or coolant. Make sure the vehicle cooling system is cool prior to carrying out this procedure.
CAUTION:
  • The engine cooling system must be maintained with the correct concentration and type of coolant solution to prevent corrosion and frost damage. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.
  • Engine coolant will damage the paint finished surfaces. If split, immediately remove the coolant and clean the area with water.
  • Never remove the coolant expansion tank cap under any circumstances while the engine is operating. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the engine.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. WARNING: Injury such as scalding could be caused by escaping steam or coolant, do not remove the filler cap from the coolant expansion tank while the system is hot.

    Remove the coolant expansion tank cap.

  2. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

  3. Remove the engine undershield.

    Refer to: ENGINE UNDERSHIELD

    • Release the radiator drain plug.
    • Allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container.
    • Tighten the radiator drain plug.

      Torque  : 2 Nm

    • Remove the 4 screws.
    • Remove the 3 clips.
    • Remove the front section of the front left wheel arch liner.

    • Disconnect the coolant hose from the left auxiliary radiator.
    • Allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container.
    • Connect the coolant hose to the left auxiliary radiator.

    • Install the front section of the front left wheel arch liner.
    • Install the 3 clips.
    • Install and tighten the 4 screws.

      Torque  : 5 Nm 

  8. Remove the windshield washer reservoir.

    • Release the 2 coolant hose clips.
    • Release the clamp and release the coolant hose.
    • Allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container.
    • Install the coolant hose and install the clamp.
    • Install the 2 coolant hose clips.

    • Release the clamp and release the coolant hose.
    • Allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container.
    • Install the coolant hose and install the clamp.
  11. Install the windshield washer reservoir.

    • Disconnect the coolant hose.
    • Allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container.
    • Connect the coolant hose.
  13. Install the engine undershield.
