Valves (G2796555): Removal

NOTE:

- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Disconnect the 12 V system.
Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING
- Remove the left cylinder head.
Refer to: LEFT CYLINDER HEAD
- Remove the right cylinder head.
Refer to: RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD

CAUTION: If the cylinder head valve components are to be reused, mark position of the valve components to make sure they are reassembled in the same position.NOTE: Repeat this procedure for the remaining valves.
- Install the special tool and compress the valve spring.
Special Tool(s): 303-252
- Remove the 2 collets.
- Decompress the valve spring and remove the special tool.
- Remove the valve spring cap and the valve spring.
- Install the special tool and compress the valve spring.

NOTE: Repeat this procedure for the remaining valves.
Remove the valve.

NOTE: Repeat this procedure for the remaining valves.
Use the special tool to remove and discard the valve stem seal.

CAUTION:
- Make sure that the area around the component is clean and free of foreign material.
- Make sure the working surfaces are thoroughly clean to avoid contamination of the sensitive components.
- Make sure that the valve grinding paste is kept away from the valve stem.
- Place a small amount of fine valve grinding paste evenly around the contact face of the valve.
- Place the valve in position and using a suitable valve grinding tool, rotate the valve back and forth a few degrees on its seat, using light pressure.
- Raise the valve frequently during lapping and turn it into a new position after a few laps or rotations.
- Lap only until a continuous but narrow lapping mark is visible on both the valve seat and valve face.
- Thoroughly clean all surfaces to remove traces of valve grinding paste from the cylinder head, valve seat and valve face.
- Repeat the procedure for the remaining valves.
