Timing Chains, Guides, And TENSIONERS (G2855782): Removal

NOTE:

- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Disconnect the 12 V system.
Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING
- Remove the timing cover.
Refer to: TIMING COVER

CAUTION:
- An M16 washer must be used to prevent damage to the crankshaft on installation.
- The thread is left handed.
- Install the M16 washer.
- Install and tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt.
Torque : 20 Nm
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP).

CAUTION: Only rotate the crankshaft clockwise.
- Install the special tool JLR-303-1303 as illustrated.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1303
- Install and tighten the bolt.
Torque : 10 Nm
- Install the special tool JLR-303-1303 as illustrated.
- Install the special tool JLR-303-1304 as illustrated.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1304
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque : 20 Nm
- Install the special tool JLR-303-1304 as illustrated.

CAUTION: The thread is left handed.
- Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.
- Remove the M16 washer.
- Remove and discard the 2 bolts.
- Remove and discard the timing chain tensioner.
- Remove and discard the bolt.
- Remove and discard the timing chain tensioner guide.
Remove and discard the 6 Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) unit bolts.

CAUTION: If the VCT unit is knocked or dropped then new VCT unit must be installed.
- Remove the timing chain with the 2 VCT units.
- Discard the timing chain.
- Remove and discard the 2 bolts.
- Remove and discard the timing chain tensioner.
- Remove and discard the bolt.
- Remove and discard the timing chain tensioner guide.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Release the oil drain tube.
Remove and discard the 6 VCT unit bolts.

CAUTION: If the VCT unit is knocked or dropped then new VCT unit must be installed.
- Reposition the oil drain tube.
- Remove the timing chain with the 2 VCT units.
- Discard the timing chain.
- Remove and discard the 6 timing chain guide bolts.
- Remove and discard the 2 timing chain guides.

CAUTION: Discard the friction washers.
- Remove and discard the outer friction washer.
- Remove the crankshaft sprocket.
- Remove and discard the inner friction washer.
