Special Tool(s): 303-1452
-
CAUTION:
- Rotate the camshaft clockwise until positioned as shown.
- Camshaft lobes must be 180 degrees away from each valve tappet or valve clearance will be incorrect.
- Use feeler gauge to check the gap between the tappet and the camshaft lobe and check against specifications table.
Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS
- Repeat this step for the remaining valve tappets.
- If the valve clearance is incorrect, continue to the next step. If the valve clearance is correct, continue to installation Step 11.
-
CAUTION:
- Use the following formula to calculate the required bucket thickness. Original thickness + measured clearance - desired clearance = required bucket thickness.
- Do not use a magnet to remove the tappet.
- Continue to removal Step 11 to remove the camshaft.
- Remove the tappet and measure the thickness.
General Equipment: Dial indicator gauge and mount
-
NOTE: If a new tappet is installed then go back to step 1 of the install procedure.
