Oil Pan (G2815510): Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING

  2. Disconnect the 12V system.

    Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT AND CONNECT

  3. Drain the engine oil.

    Refer to: ENGINE OIL VACUUM DRAINING AND FILLING 

  4. Remove the transmission.

    Refer to: TRANSMISSION - V8 S/C 5.0L PETROL

  5. Remove the lower timing cover.

    Refer to: LOWER TIMING COVER 

  6. Remove the High Pressure (HP) fuel pump 1.

    Refer to: HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP 1

    Remove the HP  fuel pump 2 cover.

  8. WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
    NOTE: Loosen the bolts a turn each at a time.

    • Remove the 2 bolts.
    • Remove the HP  fuel pump 2.

    Remove the HP  fuel pump 2 tappet.

    Install the special tool.

    Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1304

    Loosen but do not remove the 10 bolts.

    Remove the special tool.

    Remove the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1304

    • Remove and discard the 10 bolts.
    • Remove the drive plate.

    • Remove the 12 bolts.
    • Remove and discard the crankshaft rear seal and cover.

    • Remove the 2 bolts.
    • Remove the vacuum pump.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Release the wiring harness clip.
    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Release the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor and position aside.

      General Equipment: Cable ties

    • Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
    • Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
    • Remove the bolt.
    • Remove the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP).
  18. NOTE: Note the installed position of the component(s) prior to removal.

    Remove the 16 bolts.

    • Release the oil pan from the engine and the oil extraction line.
    • Remove the oil pan.
    • Discard the O-ring seal.
  20. NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Remove the oil extraction line.

    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Remove the engine oil level sensor.
