Left Camshaft (G2796535): Removal

CAUTION:
Make sure that the orientation and code on the top of the camshaft bearing caps is noted (along with the bank - A or B), so that on installation the components are installed to their original position. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to the vehicle.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Disconnect the 12 V system.
Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING
- Remove the timing chains, guides and tensioners.
Refer to: TIMING CHAINS, GUIDES, AND TENSIONERS
- CAUTION: The thread is left handed.
- Install the M16 washer.
- Install and tighten a new crankshaft pulley bolt.
Renew Part: Crankshaft pulley bolts Quantity: 1 .
Torque : 20 Nm
Mark the crankshaft pulley bolt as illustrated.
Mark the tooth of the drive plate at the special tool as illustrated.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1303
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1304

CAUTION: The crankshaft must be set at 45° After Top Dead Center (ATDC) for cylinder 1.
Rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction by 45° until position as illustrated.
- Install the special tool to lock the crankshaft.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1304
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque : 20 Nm
- Install the special tool to lock the crankshaft.
- Install the special tools as illustrated.
Special Tool(s): 303-1452
- Install and tighten the 6 bolts.
Torque : 10 Nm
- Install the special tools as illustrated.

CAUTION: Only rotate the camshafts clockwise.NOTE: Right side camshafts shown, the step for left side is similar.
Use a suitable tool to rotate the camshafts clockwise until all the valves are at their minimum open point.
- Remove the 6 bolts.
- Remove the special tools.
Special Tool(s): 303-1452

CAUTION:
- Make sure that all the valves are at their minimum open point.
- Evenly and progressively release the camshaft bearing caps.
NOTE:- Note the bearing caps position, orientation and markings. Each is marked with its position (number) and an orientation (arrow).
- Note the installed position of the components before removal.
- Remove the 20 bolts.
- Remove the 10 left camshaft bearing caps.

Remove the 2 left camshafts.
