- Open the coolant supply valve and allow the coolant to be drawn into the system.
Special Tool(s): HU-919
- Close the coolant supply valve when the coolant expansion tank 'MAX' mark is reached or coolant movement has ceased.
- Open the coolant supply valve and allow the coolant to be drawn into the system.
- Close the air supply valve (B) and make sure that the coolant supply valve (A) is closed on the special tool HU-919.
Special Tool(s): HU-919
- Release the coolant inlet hose (C) and disconnect the air supply (D).
- Close the air supply valve (B) and make sure that the coolant supply valve (A) is closed on the special tool HU-919.
Remove the special tools HU-919 and JLR-303-1634 from the expansion tank.
Special Tool(s): HU-919 , JLR-303-1634
-
CAUTION: If the cooling system pressure tester gauge indicates a significant drop in pressure, inspect the cooling system for leaks.NOTE: An initial pressure drop of 0.15 bar (1 psi) is considered normal operation.
- Check and top up the coolant to the 'MAX' mark if required.
- Install the pressure tester adapter cap and JLR-303-1649 coolant drain adapter as illustrated.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1649
General Equipment: Cooling system pressure tester
- Use the cooling system pressure tester to slowly pressurize the cooling system until the gauge reads 1 bar (15 psi).
- Maintain the pressure during the bleeding process.
The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles built 2021 onwards
-
NOTE:
- Make sure the hood is open.
- Make sure the engine is not running.
- Switch the Ignition ON and select the park position (car in Parking (P) or Neutral (N) mode).
- Open the driver's door.
- Fully press the accelerator pedal for 10 seconds.
- Fully release the accelerator pedal.
- Electric coolant pump will be activated for 5 minutes.
- Monitoring the engine coolant level in the engine coolant expansion tank.
- After 5 minutes, increase the system pressure until 1 bar is showed in the gauge, if needed.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
- Remove the 8 fasteners.
- Remove the engine compartment front cover.
- Remove the engine cover.
Refer to: ENGINE COVER - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL
The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles with fuel fired booster heater
- Remove the Fuel Fired Booster Heater (FFBH) bleed screw.
- If a continuous stream of coolant is visible from the bleeding point outlet, install and tighten the bleed screw.
Torque : 2 Nm
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
- Remove the bleed screw in the rear right engine compartment area.
- If a continuous stream of coolant is visible from the bleeding point outlet, install and tighten the bleed screw.
Torque : 2 Nm
- Remove the thermostat bypass pipe bleed screw.
- If a continuous stream of coolant is visible from the bleeding point outlet, install and tighten the bleed screw.
Torque : 2 Nm

WARNING: Never start the engine or leave it running, when the vehicle is in an enclosed space without adequate ventilation. Exhaust gases are poisonous and inhalation can cause unconsciousness and potentially lead to serious injury or death.
Install the exhaust gas extraction hose to the exhaust pipe of the vehicle.
-
CAUTION: Regularly check the engine temperature warning lamp and the instrument panel. If a warning lamp is displayed, switch the engine OFF immediately and allow to cool. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to the vehicle.
- Start the engine and allow to idle.
- Select 'Sand' driving mode.
- Set the heating system to 'MAX' heat with the blower speed control to 'MAX' speed and the air distribution to the instrument panel vents.
- Hold the engine speed between 2500 rpm and 3500 rpm until warm air is expelled from the heater core. The electric cooling fans need to start to audibly operate, indicating that the coolant is circulating in the full system with the thermostat opened.
- Switch the engine OFF and allow to cool.
- Clean any split coolant from the vehicle.
- Remove the exhaust gas extraction hose from the vehicle.
-
WARNING: Since injury such as scalding could be caused by escaping steam or coolant, allow the vehicle cooling system to cool prior to completing this step.
Check and top up the coolant if required.
