The oil pan is a 2-piece assembly and comprises the oil pan and the oil pan extension. The oil pan extension is cast from aluminum alloy using a high pressure die cast process, and located on the underside of the cylinder block. The oil pan extension is sealed to the cylinder block with a bead of room temperature vulcanization sealant. The oil pan extension is secured with 17 bolts and 2 shoulder bolts, which locate the oil pan extension to the cylinder block.
The oil pan extension covers the windage tray and the variable flow oil pump with integral vacuum pump. The oil pan extension comprises a machined hole, which provides the attachment of the oil level gauge pipe. The oil pan extension also collects engine oil returning from the cylinder heads and crankshaft lubrication.
The pressed steel oil pan is located at the underside of the oil pan extension. The oil pan is sealed to the oil pan extension with room temperature vulcanization sealant, and secured with 14 bolts. The oil pan covers the oil pick-up pipe. The oil drain plug and seal is located at the front of the oil pan.
