Cooling System Partial Draining And Vacuum Filling (G2796568): Filling
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
- Prepare a sufficient amount of coolant meeting Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) specifications.
Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS
Install the special tool HU-919 and JLR-303-1634 to the coolant expansion tank.
Special Tool(s): HU-919 , JLR-303-1634
-
CAUTION: Make sure that the ejected air from the special tool HU-919 is pointed away from the vehicle.NOTE: The special tool HU-919 needs an air pressure of 6 bar to 8 bar (87 psi to 116 psi) to operate correctly.
- Close the coolant inlet (A) and air supply valves (B) on the special tool HU-919.
- Attach the coolant inlet hose (C) from a container of coolant mixture to the special tool HU-919.
- Connect a regulated compressed air supply (D) to the special tool HU-919.
Special Tool(s): HU-919
Open the air supply valve until -0.8 Bar is shown on the gauge of the special tool HU-919.
Special Tool(s): HU-919
-
CAUTION: If the special tool HU-919 gauge indicates a significant drop in vacuum, inspect the cooling system for leaks.
- When -0.8 Bar is displayed on the vacuum refill tool HU-919 gauge, close the air supply valve.
Special Tool(s): HU-919
- Wait 1 minute to check if the cooling system holds the vacuum.
- When -0.8 Bar is displayed on the vacuum refill tool HU-919 gauge, close the air supply valve.
- Open the coolant supply valve and allow the coolant to be drawn into the system.
Special Tool(s): HU-919
- Close the coolant supply valve when the coolant expansion tank 'MAX' mark is reached or coolant movement has ceased.
- Open the coolant supply valve and allow the coolant to be drawn into the system.
- Close the air supply valve (B) and make sure that the coolant supply valve (A) is closed on the special tool HU-919.
Special Tool(s): HU-919
- Release the coolant inlet hose (C) and disconnect the air supply (D).
- Close the air supply valve (B) and make sure that the coolant supply valve (A) is closed on the special tool HU-919.
Remove the special tools HU-919 and JLR-303-1634 from the coolant expansion tank.
Special Tool(s): HU-919 , JLR-303-1634
- Remove the 8 fasteners.
- Remove the engine compartment front cover.
- Remove the engine cover.
Refer to: ENGINE COVER - V8 S/C 5.0L PETROL
-
CAUTION: If the cooling system pressure tester gauge indicates a significant drop in pressure, inspect the cooling system for leaks.NOTE: An initial pressure drop of 0.15 bar (1 psi) is considered normal operation.
- Check and top up the coolant to the 'MAX' mark if required.
- Install the pressure tester adapter cap and JLR-303-1649 coolant drain adapter as illustrated.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1649
General Equipment: Cooling system pressure tester
- Use the cooling system pressure tester to slowly pressurize the cooling system until the gauge reads 1 bar (15 psi).
- Maintain the pressure during the bleeding process.
- Release the 2 clamps.
- Remove the left clean air duct.
- Release the auxiliary coolant pump bleed screw.
- If coolant is visible from the bleeding point outlet, tighten the bleed screw.
Torque : 2 Nm
- Install the left clean air duct.
- Tighten the 2 clamps.
Torque : 3.5 Nm
- Release the charge air radiator bleed screw.
- If coolant is visible from the bleeding point outlet, tighten the bleed screw.
Torque : 2 Nm
- Release the bleed screw next to the supercharger.
- If coolant is visible from the bleeding point outlet, tighten the bleed screw.
Torque : 2 Nm
- Release the bleed screw in the rear right engine compartment area.
- If coolant is visible from the bleeding point outlet, tighten the bleed screw.
Torque : 2 Nm
The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles with fuel fired booster heater
- Release the Fuel Fired Booster Heater (FFBH) bleed screw.
- If coolant is visible from the bleeding point outlet, tighten the bleed screw.
Torque : 2 Nm
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
- Release the coolant expansion tank bleed screw.
- If coolant is visible from the bleeding point outlet, tighten the bleed screw.
Torque : 2 Nm
- Release the pressure and remove the cooling system pressure tester and the special tool JLR-303-1649.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1649
General Equipment: Cooling system pressure tester
- Check and top up the cooling system as required.
- Release the pressure and remove the cooling system pressure tester and the special tool JLR-303-1649.
- Install the engine compartment front cover.
- Install the 8 fasteners.
- Install the engine cover.
Refer to: ENGINE COVER - V8 S/C 5.0L PETROL
Install the coolant expansion tank cap.
-
WARNING: Never start the engine or leave it running, when the vehicle is in an enclosed space without adequate ventilation. Exhaust gases are poisonous and inhalation can cause unconsciousness and potentially lead to serious injury or death.
Install the exhaust gas extraction hose to the exhaust pipe of the vehicle.
-
CAUTION: Regularly check the engine temperature warning lamp and the instrument panel. If a warning lamp is displayed, switch the engine OFF immediately and allow to cool. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to the vehicle.
- Start the engine and allow to idle.
- Select 'Sand' driving mode.
- Set the heating system to 'MAX' heat with the blower speed control to 'MAX' speed and the air distribution to the instrument panel vents.
- Hold the engine speed between 2500 RPM and 3500 RPM until warm air is expelled from the heater core. The electric cooling fans need to start to audibly operate, indicating that the coolant is circulating in the full system with the thermostat opened.
- Switch the engine OFF and allow to cool.
- Clean any split coolant from the vehicle.
- Remove the exhaust gas extraction hose from the vehicle.
-
WARNING: Since injury such as scalding could be caused by escaping steam or coolant, allow the vehicle cooling system to cool prior to completing this step.
Check and top up the coolant fluid if required.
