Fuel Pump Camshaft (G2796553): Removal

- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Disconnect the 12 V system.
Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING
- Drain the engine oil.
Refer to: ENGINE OIL VACUUM DRAINING AND FILLING
- Remove the transmission.
Refer to: TRANSMISSION - V8 S/C 5.0L PETROL
- Remove the timing chains, guides and tensioners.
Refer to: TIMING CHAINS, GUIDES, AND TENSIONERS
- CAUTION: The thread is left handed.
- Install the M16 washer.
- Install and tighten a new crankshaft pulley bolt.
Renew Part: Crankshaft pulley bolts Quantity: 1 .
Torque : 20 Nm
Mark the crankshaft pulley bolt as illustrated.
Mark the tooth of the drive plate at the special tool as illustrated.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1303
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1304

CAUTION: The crankshaft must be set at 45° After Top Dead Center (ATDC) for cylinder 1.
Rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction by 45° until position as illustrated.
- Install the special tool to lock the crankshaft.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1304
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque : 20 Nm
- Install the special tool to lock the crankshaft.
- Remove the High Pressure (HP) fuel pump 1.

Remove the HP fuel pump 2 cover.

WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.NOTE: Loosen the bolts a turn each at a time.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the HP fuel pump 2.
Remove the HP fuel pump 2 tappet.
Loosen but do not remove the 10 bolts.
Remove the special tool.
Remove the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1304
- Remove the 10 bolts.
- Remove the drive plate.
- Remove the 12 bolts.
- Remove and discard the crankshaft rear seal and cover.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the vacuum pump.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Release the wiring harness clip.
- Remove the 3 bolts.
- Release the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor and position aside.
General Equipment: Cable ties
- Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP).

NOTE: Note the installed position of the component(s) prior to removal.
Remove the 16 bolts.
- Release the oil pan from the engine and the oil extraction line.
- Remove the oil pan.
- Discard the O-ring seal.

CAUTION: Do not insert the bottoming tap more than the depth of the threaded holes (16mm). Apply tape to the bottoming tap 16mm from the end as a visual guide.
Use a suitable bottoming tap to clean the threads.

CAUTION: Make sure that the locating pin on the crankshaft is aligned with the guide hole in the drive plate
Install the drive plate.

CAUTION: The crankshaft must be set at 45° After Top Dead Center (ATDC) for cylinder 1.
Install the special tool to lock the crankshaft.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1304
Install but do not fully tighten the 10 bolts.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove and discard the lower timing chain tensioner.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove and discard the lower timing chain guide.
- Use the special tool to hold the oil pump drive sprocket.
Special Tool(s): 205-053
- Remove and discard the oil pump drive sprocket bolt.
- Remove the oil pump drive sprocket.
- Remove and discard the lower timing chain.
- Use the special tool to hold the oil pump drive sprocket.

CAUTION: Take extra care when removing the component, prevent damage to the mating faces.
- Remove the 8 fuel pump camshaft carrier bolts.
- Remove the fuel pump camshaft carrier.
- Remove the fuel pump camshaft.
