Catalytic Converter (G2344555): Removal

WARNING: Observe due care when working near a hot exhaust system.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  1. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT AND CONNECT

  2. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING

  3. Remove the right air filter housing.

    Refer to: AIR FILTER HOUSING

  4. Remove the right air filter outlet pipe.

    Refer to: AIR FILTER OUTLET PIPE

  5. Remove the secondary bulkhead center panel.

    Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD CENTER PANEL - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL/INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL - PHEV/INGENIUM I6 3.0L DIESEL/INGENIUM I6 3.0L PETROL

  6. Remove the exhaust system.

    Refer to: EXHAUST SYSTEM 

  7. Remove the starter motor.

    Refer to: STARTER MOTOR

    • Release the 2 clips.
    • Remove the pipe assembly.
    • Release the clip.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Release the wiring harness from the 2 clips.
  10. CAUTION: If accidentally dropped or knocked install a new sensor.

    Use the special tool to remove the mid catalyst heated oxygen sensor.

    Special Tool(s): JLR-309-004

    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Release the heatshield from the bracket.
    • Remove the heatshield.

    • Release the 2 fasteners.
    • Release and reposition the noise, vibration and harshness material as illustrated.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Release the wiring harness from the clip.

    Remove and discard the clamp.

    • Remove the 2 bolts and release the catalytic converter.
    • Remove the 2 bolts and remove the bracket.
    • Remove the catalytic converter.
    • Remove and discard the gasket.
  16. CAUTION: If accidentally dropped or knocked install a new sensor.
    NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

    • Use the special tool to remove the mid catalyst heated oxygen sensor.
