The PHEV battery is located under the floorpan below the second row seats.
The PHEV battery contains the Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) that controls the internal temperature when the vehicle is driven or the PHEV battery is charged.
BECM
The BECM is an integral part of the PHEV battery. The BECM controls the individual battery cell voltages, internal PHEV battery temperatures and the HV relays.
The BECM communicates with the HV system and other vehicle systems through the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) power mode zero systems bus.
The PHEV battery has a temperature control system to maintain the PHEV battery internal temperature within a specific range. The temperature control system uses the PHEV battery coolant to heat and cool the inside of the PHEV battery. The PHEV battery coolant is circulated through the system by a 12V electric pump, controlled by the BECM .
The heat for the PHEV battery temperature control system is provided by an external 12V electric heater in the temperature control system. This increases the temperature of the PHEV battery coolant to increase the internal temperature of the PHEV battery. This occurs when the internal PHEV battery temperature is below a set temperature and when plugged into a charger.
