The PHEV battery coolant cooler is located near to the High Voltage Integrated Box. The PHEV battery coolant cooler uses the refrigerant from the A/C to cool the PHEV battery coolant in the PHEV battery temperature control system. The PHEV battery coolant is then circulated through the PHEV battery temperature control system to reduce the internal temperature of the PHEV battery.
The isolation valve that controls the flow of refrigerant though the PHEV battery coolant cooler is controlled by the Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) control module. The Vehicle Supervisory Controller (VSC) in the PCM sends a request to the HVAC control module. The request is sent on the HS CAN power mode zero bus to the HVAC control module. Under certain conditions the HVAC can ignore the request. The HVAC control module then activates the following:
- The electric A/C compressor
- The A/C front isolation valve
The refrigerant from the A/C system can then flow through the PHEV battery coolant cooler to cool the PHEV battery coolant.
The PHEV battery coolant cooler has a 2-pin electrical connector on the isolation valve. The 2-pin connector has the following connections:
- A 12V signal from the HVAC control module.
- A ground connection.
