Cooling System Draining And Vacuum Filling (G2398626): Draining
WARNING:
Injury such as scalding could be caused by escaping steam or coolant. Make sure the vehicle cooling system is cool prior to carrying out this procedure.
CAUTION:
- The engine cooling system must be maintained with the correct concentration and type of engine coolant solution to prevent corrosion and frost damage. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.
- Engine coolant will damage the paint finished surfaces. If split, immediately remove the coolant and clean the area with water.
- Never remove the coolant expansion tank cap under any circumstances while the engine is operating. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the engine.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

WARNING: Injury such as scalding could be caused by escaping steam or coolant, do not remove the filler cap from the coolant expansion tank while the system is hot.
Remove the coolant expansion tank cap.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING
- Remove the engine undershield.
Refer to: ENGINE UNDERSHIELD
- Release the radiator drain plug.
- Allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container.
- Tighten the radiator drain plug.
Torque : 3.5 Nm

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.
- Release the 3 lower coolant pipes in the area of the transmission oil cooler.
- Allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container.
- Install the 3 lower coolant pipes in the area of the transmission oil cooler.
- Install the engine undershield.

The following step(s) applies to:
Plug in hybrid electric vehicles only
- Remove the left undershield.
Refer to: LEFT UNDERSHIELD
- Remove the right undershield.
Refer to: RIGHT UNDERSHIELD

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.NOTE: If equipped.
- Release the Direct Current to Direct Current (DC/DC) converter coolant pipe.
- Release the Battery Charger Control Module (BCCM) coolant pipe.
- Allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container.
- Install the DC/DC converter coolant pipe.
- Install the BCCM coolant pipe.
- Install the left undershield.

- Install the right undershield.
