High Pressure Fuel Pump (G2043272): Removal

WARNING: Residual pressure may still be present in the fuel system when disconnecting a fuel line. Make sure to cover the fuel line connection with a lint free cloth to capture any escaping fuel.
CAUTION: Extreme cleanliness must be exercised when handling these components. Make sure that all tools and the surrounding area is clean before commencing work.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustration showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Always follow the fuel system health and safety precautions, when carrying out any repairs to the fuel system.

    Refer to: PETROL AND PETROL-ETHANOL FUEL SYSTEMS HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

  2. Release the fuel pressure.

    Refer to: FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE

  3. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS

    Remove the engine cover.

    Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.

  6. CAUTION: Discard the clips if damaged or worn.

    Release the coolant hose and wiring harness clips.

    Disconnect the High Pressure (HP) fuel pump electrical connector.

    Remove the engine lifting eye.

    Disconnect and reposition the engine wiring harness.

  10. Clean all the fuel line unions and the surrounding area before working on the fuel system.

    Refer to: FUEL INJECTION COMPONENT CLEANING

  11. WARNING: Residual pressure may still be present in the fuel system when disconnecting a fuel line. Make sure to cover the fuel line connection with a lint free cloth to capture any escaping fuel.
    CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

    • Carefully release the HP  fuel line. Wait until the residual pressure is fully released.
    • Disconnect the HP  fuel line from the high pressure pump.
  12. WARNING: Residual pressure may still be present in the fuel system when disconnecting a fuel line. Make sure to cover the fuel line connection with a lint free cloth to capture any escaping fuel.
    CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

    • Carefully release the Low Pressure (LP) fuel line. Wait until the residual pressure is fully released.
    • Disconnect the LP  fuel line from the high pressure pump.

    CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

    Disconnect the LP  fuel line connector.

  14. WARNING: Residual pressure may still be present in the fuel system when disconnecting a fuel line. Make sure to cover the fuel line connection with a lint free cloth to capture any escaping fuel.

    Remove the 2 fuel lines.

  15. CAUTION: Loosen each of the bolts half a turn at a time until the spring tension is fully released.

    Remove the HP  fuel pump. Discard the bolts.

    Remove and discard the HP  fuel pump O-ring seal.

  17. CAUTION: Note the orientation of the component prior to removal.

    Remove and inspect the HP  fuel pump tappet, replace if damaged or worn.
