Variable Camshaft Timing Unit (G2757519): Installation
The following step(s) applies to:

CAUTION: Make sure that the upper timing chain does not come off the idler sprocket and stays in the correct position.
- Install the intake camshaft VCT unit. Make sure that the correct VCT unit is installed as noted in the removal steps.
- Make sure that the camshaft pin is correctly seated in the VCT unit as illustrated.
- Install and tighten a new VCT
unit center bolt.
Renew Part: Variable camshaft timing actuator bolts Quantity: 1 .
Torque
Stage 1: 10 Nm
Stage 2: Loosen 90°

CAUTION: Make sure that the upper timing chain does not come off the idler sprocket and stays in the correct position as illustrated.
Inspect if the highlighted links on the timing chain is aligned with the timing mark on the idler sprocket and the VCT unit as illustrated.

CAUTION: Make sure that the upper timing chain does not come off the idler sprocket and stays in the correct position.
- Install a new left upper timing chain guide.
Renew Part: Upper timing chain guide Quantity: 1 .
- Install and tighten the bolt.
Renew Part: Left side timing chain guide bolt Quantity: 1 .
Torque : 25 Nm
- Install a new left upper timing chain guide.

CAUTION: Make sure that the upper timing chain does not come off the idler sprocket and stays in the correct position.
Install a new upper timing chain tensioner arm.
Renew Part: Timing chain tensioner arm Quantity: 1 .

CAUTION: Make sure that the upper timing chain does not come off the idler sprocket and stays in the correct position.
- Install the exhaust camshaft VCT unit. Make sure that the correct VCT unit is installed as noted in the removal steps.
- Make sure that the camshaft pin is correctly seated in the VCT unit as illustrated.
- Install and tighten a new VCT
unit center bolt.
Renew Part: Variable camshaft timing actuator bolts Quantity: 1 .
Torque
Stage 1: 10 Nm
Stage 2: Loosen 90°

Inspect if the highlighted links on the timing chain are aligned with the timing mark on the idler sprocket and the 2 VCT units as illustrated.

CAUTION: Make sure that the upper timing chain does not come off the idler sprocket and stays in the correct position.
- Install a new upper timing chain guide.
Renew Part: Upper timing chain guide Quantity: 1 .
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Renew Part: Upper timing chain upper guide bolt Quantity: 2 .
Torque : 11 Nm
- Install a new upper timing chain guide.
- Install the special tool JLR-303-1636.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1636
- Install and tighten the 2 special tool bolts.
Torque : 13 Nm
- Install the special tool JLR-303-1636.
Inspect if the new timing chain tensioner is in the reset position. The ratchet clip should be in the first groove as illustrated.
Install and tighten the new timing chain tensioner.
Renew Part: Upper timing chain tensioner Quantity: 1 .
Torque : 55 Nm

CAUTION:
- Make sure that the timing chain tensioner piston is fully deployed.
- Do not manually adjust the timing chain tensioner.
To properly install the timing chain tensioner, push the timing chain guide against the tensioner as illustrated. This allows the timing chain tensioner to reach its final tension position.
Fully tighten the 2 VCT center bolts.
Torque
Stage 1: 25 Nm
Stage 2: 60°
- Remove the 2 special tool bolts.
- Remove the special tool JLR-303-1636.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1636
- Remove the 2 special tool bolts.
- Remove the special tool JLR-303-1635.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1635
The following step(s) applies to:
Non plug in hybrid electric vehicles only
- Release the 2 special tool bolts.
- Remove the special tool JLR-303-1630.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1630
The following step(s) applies to:
Plug in hybrid electric vehicles only
- Release the 2 special tool bolts.
- Remove the special tools JLR-303-1630 and JLR-303-1686.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1630 , JLR-303-1686

NOTE: This step is to make sure that the timing components are properly installed.
Use the special tool JLR-303-1656 crankshaft pulley locking tool to rotate the crankshaft 2 times clockwise.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1656
Install a new drive chain cap.
Renew Part: Timing chain plug Quantity: 1 .
- Install the charge air cooler intake pipe.
- Secure the charge air cooler intake pipe retaining clip.
- Install the hose.
- Secure the hose clamp.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the hose.
- Secure the hose clamp.
- Secure the hose clip.
- Position the 2 hoses to their original position.
- Secure the 2 hose connections.
- Secure the hose clip.
- Install the upper timing cover.
Refer to: UPPER TIMING COVER .
- Install the charge air cooler.
Refer to: CHARGE AIR COOLER .
- Connect the 12 V system.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .

Power up the HV system. Only technicians qualified to EVAP level are allowed to perform this procedure. It is mandated that all technicians involved with the steps in this procedure have read and understood the EV Safety Rules.
