Valve Cover (G2523510): Installation
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles

NOTE: Make sure the components are installed to their original positions.
- Lubricate the components with clean engine oil.
Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the 2 camshafts to their noted removal position.
- Lubricate the components with clean engine oil.

CAUTION: Make sure that the bearing caps are correctly installed on the locating dowels.NOTE: Make sure the components are installed to their original positions.
- Lubricate the 10 camshaft bearing caps with a small quantity of clean engine oil.
Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the 10 camshaft bearing caps into the previously noted position.
- Install and tighten the 20 camshaft bearing cap bolts following the tightening sequence as illustrated.
Torque : 11 Nm
- Lubricate the 10 camshaft bearing caps with a small quantity of clean engine oil.

NOTE: Make sure that a new O-ring seal is installed.
- Install a new O-ring seal.
Renew Part: Oil fill pipe O-ring seal Quantity: 1 .
- Install the oil filler pipe.
- Install and tighten the bolt.
Torque : 12 Nm
- Install a new O-ring seal.

- Install the exhaust CMP .
- Install the intake CMP .
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque : 8 Nm

CAUTION: The mating surfaces must be free from oil or detritus contamination.
Make sure that the new gasket is correctly installed on the locating dowels.- Install a new valve cover gasket.
Renew Part: Camshaft cover gasket Quantity: 1 .
- Install the valve cover.
- Install the 3 guide pins as illustrated.
Install the Special Tool(s): 303-1449-01
- Install a new valve cover gasket.
- Install, but do not fully tighten the 16 bolts.
Torque : 10 Nm
- Remove the 3 guide pins.
Install the Special Tool(s): 303-1449-01
- Install, but do not fully tighten the 16 bolts.

- Install, but do not fully tighten the remaining 3 bolts.
Torque : 10 Nm
- Tighten the 19 bolts in the sequence illustrated.
Torque : 28 Nm
- Install, but do not fully tighten the remaining 3 bolts.
- Install the engine lifting bracket.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque : 25 Nm
- Install the coolant bypass hose to the original position.
- Install and tighten the 2 retaining studs.
Torque : 10 Nm
- Install and tighten the engine cover support mount.
Torque : 6 Nm
- Install the wiring harness into the correct position.
- Connect the 5 electrical connectors.
- Install and tighten the bolt.
Torque : 6 Nm
Install the oil temperature sensor connector clip.
- Connect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Install and tighten the bolt.
Torque : 6 Nm
- Secure the 4 clips.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Secure the clip.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV)
- Install the coolant pump drive belt.
Refer to: ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT .

- Install the accessory drive belt.
Refer to: ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT .
- Install the HP
fuel pump.
Refer to: HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (G2043272) .
- Install the evaporative emission canister purge valve.
Refer to: EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CANISTER PURGE VALVE (G2034092)
- Remove the engine vent oil separator.
Refer to: VALVE COVER VENT OIL SEPARATOR .
- Install the fuel injectors.
Refer to: FUEL INJECTORS .
- Install the CVVL
assembly.
Refer to: CONTINUOUS VARIABLE VALVE LIFT .
- Install the VCT
unit.
Refer to: VARIABLE CAMSHAFT TIMING UNIT .
- Connect the 12V system.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .

Plug in hybrid electric vehicles only
Power Up the HV system. Only technicians qualified to EVAP level are allowed to perform this procedure. It is mandated that all technicians involved with the steps in this procedure have read and understood the EV Safety Rules.
