Timing Chains, Guides, And TENSIONERS (G2780478): Installation
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
- Install the new timing chain to the new idler sprocket.
Renew Part: Lower timing chain Quantity: 1 .
Renew Part: Timing chain idler sprocket Quantity: 1 .
- Inspect if the highlighted link on the timing chain is aligned with the timing mark on the idler sprocket as illustrated.
- Install the new timing chain to the new idler sprocket.
- Install the idler sprocket and timing chain assembly.
- Install and tighten the new idler sprocket bolt.
Renew Part: Timing chain idler sprocket bolt Quantity: 1 .
Torque : 35 Nm
- Install a new lower timing chain guide.
Renew Part: Lower timing chain guide Quantity: 1 .
- Install and tighten the 2 new lower timing chain guide bolts.
Renew Part: Timing chain guide bolt Quantity: 2 .
Torque : 25 Nm
- Install a new lower timing chain guide.
- Make sure the highlighted link on the timing chain is aligned with the timing mark on the idler sprocket as illustrated.
- Make sure the highlighted link on the timing chain, the mark on the timing chain guide and the cylinder block are aligned as illustrated.
- Install a new lower timing chain tensioner arm.
Renew Part: Timing chain tensioner arm Quantity: 1 .
- Install and tighten the new tensioner arm bolt.
Renew Part: Lower timing chain tensioner guide pivot bolt Quantity: 1 .
Torque : 11 Nm
- Install a new lower timing chain tensioner arm.
Inspect if the timing chain tensioner is in the reset position. The ratchet clip should be in the first groove as illustrated.
- Install a new lower timing chain tensioner.
Renew Part: Timing chain tensioner Quantity: 1 .
- Install and tighten the 2 new bolts.
Renew Part: Timing belt tensioner bolt Quantity: 2 .
Torque : 11 Nm
- Install a new lower timing chain tensioner.

CAUTION: Make sure that the timing chain tensioner is fully deployed.
Release the lower timing chain tensioner piston.
- Install the upper timing chain.
Refer to: UPPER TIMING CHAIN - REMOVE FOR ACCESS .
- Install the lower timing cover.
Refer to: LOWER TIMING COVER .
- Install the charge air cooler.
Refer to: CHARGE AIR COOLER .
- Connect 12 V system.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .

Power Up the HV system. Only technicians qualified to EVAP level are allowed to perform this procedure. It is mandated that all technicians involved with the steps in this procedure have read and understood the EV Safety Rules.
