Lower Timing Cover (G2523508): Installation
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
- Install a new drive chain cap.
Renew Part: Timing chain plug Quantity: 1 .

CAUTION:
- Take extra care not to damage the lower timing cover or the dowel pins.
- Failure to position the dowels as shown in the illustration may result in engine damage.
Use a suitable tool to position the dowels as shown in the illustration.

CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
Apply a 3 mm diameter bead of sealant, to the area shown.

CAUTION: Take care not to damage the cylinder head gasket when installing the lower timing cover.NOTE: The lower timing cover must be installed within 7 minutes of the sealant application.
- Install the lower timing cover.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts shown to allow the dowels to be pushed into the correct position.
Torque : 25 Nm
- Install 2 additional bolts as shown.
- Tighten the 4 bolts.
Torque : 25 Nm
Install and tighten the remaining 8 bolts.
Torque
M8x35 Hex bolts: 25 Nm
M8x30 Torx bolts: 25 Nm
Install and tighten the 3 lower timing cover upper bolts.
Torque : 12 Nm
- Install the CKP
.
Refer to: CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR .
- Install the crankshaft rear seal.
Refer to: CRANKSHAFT REAR SEAL .
- Connect the 12V system.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .

Power Up the HV system. Only technicians qualified to EVAP level are allowed to perform this procedure. It is mandated that all technicians involved with the steps in this procedure have read and understood the EV Safety Rules.
