ITEM DESCRIPTION
1 BISG  drive belt tensioner (quantity 2)
2 BISG
3 Wiring harness connector
4 Battery positive terminal
5 BISG  pulley

The BISG  is located on the left of the engine towards the front. The BISG  is connected to the crankshaft pulley by the BISG  drive belt.

The BISG  is controlled by the PCM  through the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) power mode zero systems bus.

On PHEV  the BISG  can start the engine by turning the crankshaft through the BISG  drive belt. The BISG  has been introduced to provide a virtually silent engine crank. There is a Direct Current to Direct Current (DC/DC) to provide 12V power from the high voltage battery to the vehicle systems. Therefore in this application the generator function of the 12V BISG  is not used.
