Symptom Chart

CAUTION: If the engine is run without the drive belt(s) connected to eliminate driven components, DTC  s may be set which must be cleared before the vehicle is returned to the owner. The engine should not be run for more than 2-3 minutes with the belts disconnected. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle
NOTE: The symptoms and pinpoint tests below are applicable to vehicles with viscous fan drives installed

Accessory Drive Noise Identification 

Prior to completing any repair actions in the pinpoint tests below, identify the type of noise emitted from the accessory drive belts, tensioners or idler pulleys. Refer to the Accessory Drive Noise table and identify the noise as listed. Submit the findings of the noise with the warranty claim

  • Click
  • Humming
  • Ticking
  • Whirring
  • Buzzing
  • Knocking
  • Rubbing
  • Warbling
  • Squeak
  • Whining
SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES ACTION
Primary accessory drive belt and/or secondary accessory drive belt noise. Rattle, squeak, whining, rubbing, warbling or humming noise
  • Primary accessory drive belt and/or secondary accessory drive belt stretched, damaged, or contaminated with oil
  • Primary accessory drive belt and/or secondary accessory drive belt pulley(s), idlers or tensioners misaligned, damaged, seized, worn or noisy bearings
  • Check the primary accessory drive belt and secondary accessory drive belt pulleys for correct alignment, damage and freedom of rotation - Use a stethoscope or use the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment - Noise, vibration and harshness sensor diagnostic test, listen to each drive belt pulley to identify any noisy bearings. Remove the primary accessory drive belt and secondary accessory drive belt, rotate each pulley by hand listening for noises and feeling for roughness in the bearings
  • GO to PINPOINT TEST A .
Primary accessory drive belt and/or secondary accessory drive belt does not hold tension
  • Primary accessory drive belt and/or secondary accessory drive belt stretched, damaged, or contaminated with oil
  • Primary accessory drive belt and/or secondary accessory drive belt worn or damaged
