  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic system, check the powertrain control module for ignition system related DTC  s and refer to the relevant DTC  index. For further ignition system diagnostics, REFER to: ENGINE IGNITION .

Engine cranks and fires, but will not start

  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic system, check the powertrain control module for evaporative emissions related DTC  s and refer to the relevant DTC  index.   • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic system, check the powertrain control module for fuel system related DTC  s and refer to the relevant DTC  index

Difficult cold start

  • Refer to the relevant service information and check the battery and charging system. Rectify as necessary

Difficult to start after hot soak (vehicle standing, engine off, after engine has reached operating temperature)
  • Injector leak

Engine stalls soon after start
  • Positive crankcase ventilation system blocked/leaking
  • Powertrain control module power supply relay fault

  • Ignition system
  • Air intake system restricted

  • Fuel lines or fuel filter blockage
  • Check the integrity of the positive crankcase ventilation system. Rectify as necessary. For further positive crankcase ventilation system diagnostics, REFER to: ENGINE EMISSION CONTROL .
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic system, check the powertrain control module for power supply relay related DTC  s and refer to the relevant DTC  index.

  • Inspect the fuel lines and fuel filter for blockages, deterioration or damage. Rectify as necessary. For further fuel line and filter diagnostics, REFER to: FUEL TANK AND LINES - V8 S/C 5.0L PETROL (G1551223) .
Engine hesitates/poor acceleration
  • Fuel pressure, fuel lines, fuel filter
  • Injector leak
  • High pressure fuel pump(s)
  • Air leakage
  • Electronic engine control
  • Throttle motor
  • Restricted accelerator pedal travel (carpet, etc)
  • Ignition system
  • Transmission malfunction

  • Check the fuel injectors for leakages. Repair as necessary. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic system, check the powertrain control module for fuel injector related DTC  s and refer to the relevant DTC  index.
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic system, check the powertrain control module for other fuel system related DTC  s and refer to the relevant DTC  index
  • Inspect the air intake system for blockages, deterioration or damage. Rectify as necessary. For further air intake diagnostics, REFER to: INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING - V8 S/C 5.0L PETROL (G1222452) .

  • Check the accelerator pedal for restricted movement, for example carpet or other objects, preventing full pedal travel. Rectify as necessary.

Engine backfires

  • Sticking Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) hub

Poor throttle response

  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic system, check the ABS control module for traction control related DTC  s and refer to the relevant DTC  index
  • Inspect the air intake system for blockages, deterioration or damage. Rectify as necessary. For further air intake diagnostics, REFER to: INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING - V8 S/C 5.0L PETROL (G1222452) .
Engine misfires
  • Ignition system fault
  • Fuel system fault
  • Engine sensor faults
  • Air intake system, blockages, deterioration and damage
  • Catalyst/exhaust system blockage
  • Variable camshaft timing system stuck active
  • Low cylinder compressions
NOTE: The misfire detection monitor runs continuously and is designed to detect levels of misfire that can cause thermal damage to the catalyst or result in excessive tailpipe emissions. A full description of misfire monitoring can be found in the service information .
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment check the powertrain control module for the following DTC  s and complete the corrective actions:
    • P0300 - Random Misfire Detected
    • P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
    • P0302 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
    • P0303 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
    • P0304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
    • P0305 - Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected
    • P0306 - Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
    • P0307 - Cylinder 7 Misfire Detected
    • P0308 - Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected
    • P1315 - Misfire with the potential for Catalyst Damage
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic system, check the powertrain control module for ignition system related DTC  s and refer to the relevant DTC  index. For further ignition system diagnostics, REFER to: ENGINE IGNITION .
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic system, check the powertrain control module for fuel system related DTC  s and refer to the relevant DTC  index.
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, check the powertrain control module for sensor related DTC  s and refer to the relevant DTC  index
  • Inspect the air intake system for blockages, deterioration or damage. Rectify as necessary. For further air intake diagnostics, REFER to: INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING - V8 S/C 5.0L PETROL (G1222452) .
  • Inspect the Catalyst/exhaust system for blockages, deterioration or damage. Rectify as necessary
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, check the powertrain control module for variable camshaft actuator related DTC  s and refer to the relevant DTC  index
