Crankshaft Position Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Velar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The characteristics of the signal supplied by the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor are learned by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). This enables the PCM to set an adaption and support the engine misfire detection function. There are small variations between different drive plates and different CKP sensors. The adaption must be reset if either component is renewed, or removed and installed. It is also necessary to reset the drive plate adaption if the PCM is renewed or replaced.

The PCM supports 4 drive plate adaptions for the CKP sensor. Each adaption relates to a specific engine speed range. The engine speed ranges are detailed in the table below:

ADAPTION ENGINE SPEED - REVOLUTION PER MINUTE (RPM)
1 1, 800 - 3, 000
2 3, 001 - 3, 800
3 3, 801 - 4, 600
4 4, 601 - 5, 400
