Engine Cooling - INGENIUM I6 3.0L Petrol (G2523579): Overview
The engine cooling system maintains the engine within an optimum temperature range under changing ambient and engine operating conditions. A pressurized expansion tank system is used which continuously separates the air from the cooling system and replenishes the system through a hose connected between the expansion tank and the thermostat. A continuous vent into the expansion tank, through a hose connected to the engine, prevents air locks from forming in the cooling system.
The engine cooling system also provides cooling for the following:
- The engine oil cooler
- For additional information, refer to: ENGINE
- The ATF
cooler
- For additional information, Refer to: TRANSMISSION COOLING - VEHICLES WITH: 8HP76 8-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, AWD
- The charge air cooler
- For additional information, refer to: INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING
- The turbocharger.
- For additional information, Refer to: TURBOCHARGER
The engine cooling system also provides heating for the following:
- The passenger compartment
- For additional information, Refer to: HEATING AND VENTILATION
- For additional information, Refer to: FUEL FIRED BOOSTER HEATER
- The electric throttle.
- For additional information, refer to: INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING
The primary components of the engine cooling system are the following:
- Connecting hoses and pipes
- Variable coolant pump
- Radiator
- Electric cooling fan
- Coolant temperature sensors
- Coolant expansion tank
- Electric thermostat
- ATF cooler
- Active grille air shutter
- Engine oil cooler
