Tire Pressure Monitoring System (G2299753): Overview
The purpose of the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is to assist the driver to maintain the vehicle's tire pressures at the optimum level in order to:
- Improve fuel consumption.
- Maintain ride and handling characteristics.
- Reduce the risk of rapid tire deflation possibly caused by under inflated tires.
- Comply with legislation in relevant markets.
The TPMS measures the tire pressure on the vehicle and issues warnings to the driver if any of the pressures deviate from defined tolerances.
NOTE:
- During a tire blowout a very rapid reduction in pressure is experienced. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is not intended to warn the driver of a blowout, as it is not possible to give the driver sufficient warning. TPMS assists the driver to keep the tires at correct pressure, which tends to reduce the likelihood of a tire blowout occurring.
- The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is inhibited when the vehicle is in Transit mode. For more details on Transit mode refer to the PRE-DELIVERY INSPECTION MANUAL
A single TPMS hardware configuration is used. TPMS status information is relayed to the driver with a message. The message appears in the Instrument Cluster (IC) information and message center with an amber warning indicator.
The TPMS can detect these situations in all conditions:
- Tire pressure sensor has been replaced.
- Tire pressure sensor is missing.
- Tire pressure sensor has stopped transmitting.
- Identification from tire pressure sensor that does not belong to the vehicle.
- Wheels in use on the vehicle have changed position.
- Incompatible tire pressure sensor has been installed.
- The wheel is replaced with a full-size spare wheel.
