Tire Change

CAUTION:
  • For vehicles equipped with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), be careful when you remove and reinstall tires. If you are not careful, you can cause damage to the tire pressure sensor.
  • Avoid spinning the wheels. The forces released can damage the structure of the tire, and cause it to fail.
NOTE:
  • Service the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) valve with a suitable service kit each time the tire is dismounted to make sure that the seal is air tight. Follow all instructions about using this kit.
  • If the metal valve stem of the tire pressure sensor is damaged, it can be replaced independently. The metal valve stem is a separate component and there is no need to replace the entire sensor assembly.

ITEM DESCRIPTION
1 Tire valve and pressure sensor
2 Tire installation/removal tool initial start position
3 High tire and tire bead tension area
4 Low tire and tire bead tension area
WARNING: Do not twist or bend the tire valves when you attach a pressure hose or gauge. If you bend the hose or gauge it can cause an accident that can cause injury or death.
CAUTION:
  • To avoid damage to the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) valves, it is recommended not to use rigid tire inflation wands. This is to avoid the risk of excess leverage and sideways pressure on the valve.
  • To avoid damaging the valves, do not apply excessive or sideways force on the gauge and/or inflator.

When you remove the tire, do not use the tire bead breaker within 90° of the tire valve in each direction.

When you use the tire removal machine, put the installation arm at the start position as shown in the tire change illustration. Rotate the wheel through 180° in a counter clockwise direction. Relieve the high tension from the tire bead and pull the remaining 180° of the tire manually from the rim.

When you install the tire, position the installation arm as shown. Rotate the tire and take care that the tire bead on the low tension side of the tire does not damage the tire pressure sensor.

After changing wheels and tires, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) needs to learn the tire pressure sensors identifications and locations.

NOTE: For more information, read the 'Auto Location' in this information.
