System Fault Message
If a fault is detected in the Adaptive Damping (AD) system, the message 'ADAPTIVE DAMPING FAULT' is displayed on the Instrument Cluster (IC). The message is sent by the Chassis Control Module (CHCM) via the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) chassis systems bus to the IC. The yellow general warning indicator is also illuminates on the IC.
The CHCM records any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and related data. The DTCs and related data are read using the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment. The JLR approved diagnostic equipment enables certain components to be activated and also read live data.
If a fault is detected, the CHCM implements a strategy, based on the type of fault. If there is an electrical power fault, or the CHCM cannot control the adaptive shock absorbers, they default to failsafe mode. If a sensor fails that only affects 1 or more control modes an intermediate shock absorber setting is used as the lower threshold. The remaining working modes can demand higher damping as required.
