Fuel Tank (G2300118): Removal

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTE:

This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.

Always follow the fuel system health and safety precautions when doing any repairs to the fuel system.

Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT .
Drain the fuel tank.
Refer to: FUEL TANK DRAINING .

Release the second row seat cushion.

1. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
2. Remove the second row seat cushion.

- Remove the 4 nuts.
- Remove the fuel pump access cover.

- Disconnect the 2 fuel lines.
- Release the fuel vapor pipe.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING .
Remove the driveshaft.
Refer to: DRIVESHAFT .

- Remove the 14 bolts.
- Remove the 16 clips.
- Remove the 8 nuts.
- Remove the left and right body undershields.

- Release the fuel filler hose clamp.
- Release the fuel filler hose from the fuel tank.

Remove the center heatshield clip.

Use a suitable hydraulic jack to support the fuel tank.

General Equipment: Transmission jack

Remove the 4 fuel tank strap bolts.
CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the center heatshield when removing the fuel tank.

With assistance, remove the fuel tank.

General Equipment: Transmission jack
NOTE: Only do the following step(s), if a new fuel tank is to be installed.

- Release the fuel vapor pipe bracket.
- Reposition the fuel vapor pipe.
- Discard the fuel vapor pipe bracket.

Use the special tool 310-123 to release the retaining ring.

Release the fuel pump module.

- Disconnect the 2 fuel lines.
- Release the fuel vapor pipe.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Remove the fuel pump module.

Remove and discard the fuel pump module seal.
