Upper Timing Cover (G2110220): Removal
CAUTION:
- Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
- Be prepared to collect escaping oil.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustration depending on the vehicle specification, but essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING .
- Disconnect the 12V system.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
- Partially drain the engine cooling system.
Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM PARTIAL DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING .
- Remove the charge air cooler intake pipe.
Refer to: CHARGE AIR COOLER INTAKE PIPE .
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors from the Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) solenoids.
- Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
- Reposition the wiring harness.
Remove the engine cover support bolt.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.
Release the 3 coolant hoses from the engine coolant degas separator.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.
- Release the 2 hose clamps.
- Remove the stud.
- Release the 2 coolant hoses.
- Release the coolant hose bracket from the upper timing cover assembly.
Remove the engine coolant degas separator.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Release the clip.
- Remove the wiring harness bracket.
Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the 2 VCT solenoids.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seals.
- Remove the 12 bolts.
- Remove the upper timing over.
Remove and discard the upper timing cover gasket.
