The intake manifold is a plastic injection molded assembly made from 2 shells vibration-welded together. The intake manifold is installed directly to the left of the cylinder head with 7 bolts and sealed with 4 flexible seals.
The main function of the intake manifold is to evenly distribute intake air into the combustion chamber of each cylinder.
A Manifold Absolute Pressure and Temperature (MAPT) sensor is located on the upper intake manifold and secured with a screw. The MAPT sensor is used by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM calculates air density and temperature and determine the air mass flow rate of the engine.
The electric throttle is attached to the intake manifold with 4 screws. A gasket seals the joint between the electric throttle and the intake manifold.
