Catalytic Converter (G2340230): Removal
WARNING:
Observe due care when working near a hot exhaust system.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING .
- Remove the turbocharger.
Refer to: the appropriate Service Information.
- Remove the powertrain lower support insulator.
Refer to: POWERTRAIN LOWER SUPPORT INSULATOR .
- Remove and discard the 3 exhaust down pipe nuts.
- Release the wiring harness from the 2 clips.
- Remove the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) wiring harness bracket.
- Release the 4 wiring harness clips.
- Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.
Remove the 3 catalytic converter lower bolts.
- Remove the 3 catalytic converter upper bolts.
- Remove the catalytic converter upper bracket.
- Remove the catalytic converter assembly.
- Remove and discard the gasket.

NOTE:
- Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
- Note the installed position of the component(s) prior to removal.
Use the special tool to remove the 3 HO2S sensors.
