Parking Brake (G2298411): Overview
The EPB is an electrically actuated system that operates the calipers on the rear brakes. The system consists of:
- An EPB switch
- The EPB actuators (quantity 2)
- The warning indicators (quantity 2)
- The ABS .
The vehicle can have different components installed if it is a PHEV , MHEV or a conventional drive line. The PHEV and MHEV will have an Integrated Power Brake system which contains the ABS functionality. Non PHEV and MHEV vehicles may have a separate ABS installed.
The EPB is controlled by the ABS , which uses the EPB actuators to apply and release the rear disc brakes. Operation of the EPB is initiated by the EPB switch and software within the ABS . The EPB has the following operating modes:
- Static apply/release
- Ignition OFF apply (manual transmission vehicles only)
- Drive-away release
- Automatic transmission apply/release
- High temperature reclamp
- Driver exit warning
- Dynamic apply
- Roll away reclamp.
Signals from other vehicle systems for operation of the EPB are transmitted to the ABS . The signals are transmitted on the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) chassis systems bus and FlexRay.
