Brake Pads - Vehicles With: PHEV (G2740581): Installation

  1. WARNING: Do not use compressed air to clean brake components. Dust from friction materials can be harmful if inhaled.

    Use brake cleaner fluid to clean the brake caliper and brake caliper carrier.

    Material: Brake Cleaner () 

  2. CAUTION: Damaged components must be replaced.

    Inspect the caliper piston and slide pin seals for damage.

    • Release the 7 fasteners.
    • Remove the access cover.
    • Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap, and check the brake fluid level.
    • Use a syringe to remove the excessive brake fluid to avoid the brake fluid reservoir to overflow.

    Use the special tool to fully retract the brake caliper piston.

    Special Tool(s): 206-080 

  5. NOTE: Make sure that the anti-rattle spring is installed to the noted position prior to removal.

    • Install the anti-rattle spring.
    • Install the brake pads.

    • Install the brake caliper.
    • Install and tighten the 2 guide pins to the brake caliper and install the 2 dust caps.

      Torque  : 30 Nm 

    • Connect the electrical connector to the EPB  .
    • Secure the wiring harness to the bracket.
    • Install the anti-rattle spring.
  7. Repeat the above procedure for the other side.
  8. NOTE:
    • Right side only.
    • If new brake pads are installed make sure that a new brake pad wear sensor is installed.

    • Connect the brake pad wear sensor to the brake pad.

      Renew Part: Brake pad wear sensor cable Quantity: 1 . 

    • Secure the 2 brake pad wear sensor wiring harness grommets to the brackets.
  9. CAUTION: Failure to follow this instruction may lead to brake warning lamps and Diagnostic Trouble Code(s) (DTC) being set.

    1. NOTE: Although the brake pedal might feel firm make sure to hold the pedal through the 10 second period.

      If the Integrated Power Brake unit - 'Assembly Mode' has not been activated, press and hold the brake pedal in a single apply for 10 seconds.

    2. If the brake pedal felt soft and fell to the floor proceed to substep  4.
    3. If the brake pedal felt firm proceed to substep  5.
    4. NOTE: Make sure to repeatedly press the brake pedal until a firm brake pedal is reached.

      If the Integrated Power Brake unit - 'Assembly Mode' has been activated, press the brake pedal several times until a firm brake pedal is reached.

    5. Check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir and top-up with brake fluid if necessary.

    • Check and clean the area around the brake fluid reservoir cap, if necessary.
    • Install the access.
    • Secure the 7 fasteners.
  11. Install the rear wheels and tires.

    Refer to: WHEEL AND TIRE .

  12. Use the JLR  approved diagnostic equipment to deactivate the Integrated Power Brake Assembly mode.

  13. Remove the EPB  from maintenance position.
