Brake Pads - Vehicles With: PHEV (G2740579): Installation

  1. WARNING: Do not use compressed air to clean brake components. Dust from friction materials can be harmful if inhaled.
    CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material and that no grease is applied to the brake pad guides.

    Clean the brake caliper housing and brake caliper carrier using brake cleaning fluid.

    Material: Brake Cleaner  

  2. WARNING: Damaged components must be replaced.

    Inspect the brake caliper piston and slide pin seals for damage and replace, if necessary.

  3. CAUTION: As the piston is pushed back into the brake caliper housing, the brake fluid level in the reservoir will rise. Do not allow the reservoir to overflow.

    • Release the 7 retainers.
    • Remove the startup battery cover and brake fluid reservoir cover.
    • Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap, and check the brake fluid level.
    • Using a syringe, remove the excessive brake fluid to avoid the brake fluid reservoir to overflow.

    With a suitable brake caliper piston retraction tool, push the brake caliper piston back into the brake caliper housing.

    Special Tool(s): 206-080

    • Install the brake pads.

      Renew Part: Brake pad kit Quantity: 1 . 

    • Secure the 3 clips on the brake pad.
  6. CAUTION:
    • Make sure that the brake hose is not twisted and is correctly located.
    • If new brake pads are to be installed make sure that new brake pad wear sensor is installed.
    • Install the brake caliper.
    • Install and tighten the brake caliper guide pins.

      Torque  : 58 Nm 

    • Connect the brake pad wear sensor to the brake pad.

      Renew Part: Brake pad wear sensor cable Quantity: 1 . 

    • Secure the brake pad wear sensor grommet.
  7. Repeat the procedure for the other side.
  8. CAUTION: Failure to follow this instruction may lead to brake warning lamps and Diagnostic Trouble Code(s) (DTC) being set.

    1. NOTE: Although the brake pedal might feel firm make sure to hold the pedal through the 10 second period.

      If the Integrated Power Brake unit - 'Assembly Mode' has not been activated, press and hold the brake pedal in a single apply for 10 seconds.

    2. If the brake pedal felt soft and fell to the floor proceed to substep  4.
    3. If the brake pedal felt firm proceed to substep  5.
    4. NOTE: Make sure to repeatedly press the brake pedal until a firm brake pedal is reached.

      If the Integrated Power Brake unit - 'Assembly Mode' has been activated, press the brake pedal several times until a firm brake pedal is reached.

    5. Check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir and top-up with brake fluid if necessary.
  9. CAUTION: If brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.

    • Check and clean the area around the brake fluid reservoir filler cap, if required.
    • Install the startup battery and brake fluid reservoir cover.
    • Secure the 7 retainers.
  10. Install both the front wheels and tires.

    Refer to: WHEEL AND TIRE .

  11. Use the JLR  approved diagnostic equipment to deactivate the Integrated Power Brake assembly mode.
