Brake System Pressure Bleeding - Vehicles With: MHEV/Non-Electric Vehicles (G2309379): Bleeding
- Brake fluid will damage paint finished surfaces. If spilled, immediately remove the fluid and clean the area with water.
- The brake fluid reservoir must remain full with new, clean brake fluid at all times during bleeding.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING .
- Check that the brake fluid lines are secure and that there are no signs of a brake fluid leak. If a brake fluid leak is detected, investigate and rectify the cause of the leak before bleeding the brakes.
- Remove all 4 wheels and tires.
Refer to: WHEEL AND TIRE .
-
WARNING: The brake fluid reservoir must remain full with new, clean brake fluid at all times during bleeding.
- Remove the 7 clips.
- Remove the startup battery cover.
- Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap.
- Press the brake pedal several times.
- Check and top-up the brake fluid level.
Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .
-
CAUTION: Make sure that the operating pressure of the equipment does not exceed 5 bar.
Install the pressure bleeding equipment to the brake master cylinder fluid reservoir.
General Equipment: Brake/clutch system pressure bleeder/filler
-
CAUTION: The bleed bottle must remain a minimum of 300 mm above the caliper that is being bled.
Install the bleed tube to the brake caliper bleed screw and immerse the free end of the bleed tube in a bleed bottle equipped with a 1-way valve.
The following step(s) applies to:
Left-hand drive vehicles
Starting at the brake caliper furthest away from the brake master cylinder, loosen the bleed screw by one-half to three-quarters of a turn.
The following step(s) applies to:
Right-hand drive vehicles
Starting at the brake caliper furthest away from the brake master cylinder, loosen the bleed screw by one-half to three-quarters of a turn.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
-
CAUTION: Make sure that the selector lever and the gearshift mechanism are in the park (P) position.
- Start and run the engine.
-
- Complete the following sequence a minimum of 10 times for the rear calipers.
- With the bleed screw closed, switch the Electric Park Brake (EPB) on.
- Press the brake pedal down, open the bleed screw.
- Wait for 2 seconds and switch the EPB OFF.
- Close the bleed screw.
- Release the brake pedal.
-
- Complete the following sequence a minimum of 15 times for the front calipers.
- With the bleed screw closed, press the brake pedal down.
- Open the bleed screw for 2 seconds.
- Close the bleed screw.
- Release the brake pedal.
-
CAUTION: Make sure the bleed screw cap is installed after bleeding. This will prevent corrosion to the bleed screw.
Tighten the bleed screw.
Torque : 15 Nm

WARNING: Braking efficiency may be seriously impaired if an incorrect bleed sequence is used.
Repeat the brake bleeding procedure for each brake caliper, following the above sequence.
- Apply the brakes and check for leaks.
- Remove the bleeding equipment.
- Fill the brake fluid reservoir to the MAX mark.
