Tailgate Micro Cracking Repair (G2767623): Activation

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

NOTE:
- This step gives details of the parts required for this repair.
- *An allowance equivalent to 45 sterling has been allocated to locally source the repair kit where, due to local legislation, certain markets cannot import aerosol paints.

The illustration shows the location and appearance of the micro cracking around the tailgate hinge(s). This can occur on either or both sides.

Remove the tailgate hinge trim.

Use a suitable flat blade screwdriver to carefully open the micro crack so that the filler can be applied.

Use the sandpaper in the repair kit to prepare the micro cracks for the filler. Firstly, rub down with coarse sandpaper (P180), then use the finer sandpaper (P400) to smooth out the surfaces.

Clean the surface using the surface cleaner wipes supplied in the repair kit.

Mix the TEROSON PU 9225 filler supplied in the repair kit and apply to the micro cracks as illustrated.

Wait 15 minutes for the filler to cure.

Use the P400 sandpaper supplied in the repair kit to smooth off the filler.

Clean the surface using the surface cleaner wipes supplied in the repair kit.

Paint the repaired area with the EQUILIBRIUM spray paint from the repair kit. 2 or 3 coats may be required. Allow 5 minutes between each coat.

Wait 15 minutes for the paint to dry.

Install the tailgate hinge trim.
If required, repeat steps 3- 13 for the other side.

When reinstating the tailgate, make sure to check the alignment of the tailgate to the roof panel and body side panel. The tailgate should be central in its aperture.
